Experience the smooth richness of Yunnan Black Gold – Bi Luo Chun Style Black Tea, a rare loose leaf Chinese black tea from Ning’er County, Simao, Yunnan Province of China. Crafted in the rolling style of Bi Luo Chun but fully oxidised as a black tea, it offers malty sweetness, floral hints, and a touch of chocolate in a refined, comforting cup.

Tea facts:

Although Bi Luo Chun is traditionally a famous Chinese green tea, this unique Yunnan version is made as a black tea. The leaves are harvested as “one leaf and one bud” and hand-rolled into elegant spirals.

Region of Origin:

This tea hails from Ning’er County, Simao Prefecture, Yunnan Province, an area renowned for its fertile soils, misty mountains, and long tea-growing tradition. The high elevation and unique terroir give Yunnan black teas their signature balance of sweetness and depth.

Taste and Aroma:

When brewed, this loose leaf black tea reveals a smooth, full-bodied cup with notes of malty sweetness, gentle floral undertones, and a light chocolatey finish. The aroma rises with honey-like warmth, leaving a satisfying aftertaste that lingers.

With short aging, the tea develops a deeper malty character, layered fragrance, and a more rounded taste.

Interesting Facts:

The name “Bi Luo Chun” refers to the spiral shape of the rolled leaves (“green snail spring”) rather than the oxidation itself. By adapting this style for black tea, Yunnan tea masters have created a distinctive variation that combines the elegance of Bi Luo Chun’s appearance with the bold, rich taste of Yunnan black tea.

Brewing Guide:

For this Yunnan black tea, use water heated to about 90 °C. Take 5-6 grams of tea per 100 ml of water. Rinse briefly with hot water for about 10 seconds and discard the rinse to awaken the leaves. For the first infusion, steep for 10 seconds, then gradually increase the time with each subsequent brew (for example 15, 20, 30, 45, 60 seconds until it's brewed out). This tea can be re-steeped several times, with each infusion revealing new layers of flavour.

For a Western-style cup, use about 2 grams of tea per 200 ml of water and steep for 2:30–3:30 minutes. Adjust the steeping time slightly depending on how strong you like your tea.

Perfect For:

This tea is ideal for both everyday enjoyment and special moments of reflection. Its gentle sweetness and comforting depth make it an excellent companion to breakfast, desserts, or as a calming afternoon brew.
