Tea Facts:
Da Hong Pao, also known as Big Red Robe, is the most famous of the Wuyi rock oolongs. Originating from the steep cliffs of Wuyi Shan, this tea is crafted through a traditional heavy roast, bringing out its bold yet refined character.
Region of Origin:
This loose leaf oolong is grown in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Wuyi Mountains, Fujian Province, China. The rocky terrain, mineral-rich soil, and misty climate create the unique mineral “rock rhyme” that defines Wuyi teas.
Taste and Aroma:
This Wuyi rock oolong has a strong yet smooth flavor with a full body. The heavy roast brings out a fruity and sweet taste and aroma, leaving a satisfying and lasting impression in the cup.
Interesting Facts:
Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) is surrounded by legend and rarity. The original tea comes from just three ancient bushes growing on the cliffs of Wuyi Shan. These bushes are considered national treasures, and only about 400 grams of tea are harvested from them each year, reserved entirely for the Chinese government. Because of this extreme scarcity, all Da Hong Pao available on the market today is produced from carefully cultivated cuttings of those original plants. While it is not from the mother bushes themselves, the tea we offer preserves the character and tradition of this legendary rock oolong, allowing tea lovers to experience the essence of one of China’s most famous teas.
Brewing Guide:
Use about 4–5 grams of tea per 100 ml of water heated to around 95 °C. Rinse the leaves briefly for 5–10 seconds and discard the rinse. Begin with a first infusion of 20–30 seconds, followed by a second of 25–40 seconds and a third of 30–45 seconds, gradually adding 5–10 seconds for each subsequent brew. The same leaves can be infused up to 6-7 times as the flavor develops.
For a Western-style preparation, use around 2 grams of tea per 200 ml of water and steep for 2:30–3:30 minutes.
Perfect For:
This Chinese oolong tea is an excellent choice for slow, mindful tea sessions, pairing with desserts, or enjoying chilled in warmer months.
Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) Wuyi Rock Oolong Tea embodies both the mineral strength of the Wuyi cliffs and the elegance of centuries-old tradition.
